They survived the catastrophic extinction and continued to live happily for many millions of years. It is safe to assume that they have had a lengthy and mysterious history on Earth. They’ve adapted and have some of the best hunting techniques out of all wild animals.  A recent video from Blue Paw Artists shows just how incredible crocodiles are. As an animal makes its way down twisting tree branches, he finds himself near the edge of the water. The croc is already eyeing his next meal, and this creature is out of luck.  Most animals would think they’d be safe from a croc by hiding in an elevated place such as a tree. The thing is, crocodiles have mastered hunting so well that they can launch their entire body out of the water and propel into the air if they’re hungry enough.  To put this into perspective, males can grow to be 17 feet long and weigh 1,000 pounds on average, however, specimens up to 23 feet long and 2,200 pounds are not unusual. That’s a lot of weight to throw into the air for a snack.

A Final Leap

In this video, the croc has multiple attempts to catch the animal in the tree. It fails but tries one last time. As the water splashes from the crocodile’s large body, you can hear the scratch of the animal being captured.  The next image we see as the crocodile comes back into the frame is the animal’s head in the strong jaws of the ancient reptile. Crocodiles pursue their prey covertly while hunting from the water. Some creatures wait for their prey to drink or bathe near the water’s edge. Large mammals like zebras, wildebeests, and humans can be killed and eaten by a wide variety of species.  After capturing its meal, a crocodile will pull it into the water where it will perish. Biting off sizable pieces of meat from its target, it swallows them whole to consume them. Other species, like the gharial and Chinese alligators, predominately eat fish or invertebrates. The stealthy croc in this video enjoys his meal and sinks back under the water to prowl for the next bite of food. With only his eyes above the surface, the crocodile is nearly camouflaged as he moves!  It’s truly incredible to see wild animals in their natural habitat. It’s safe to say no creature is safe around a hungry crocodile. Check out the unbelievable footage below!
