It was nearly 10:00 p.m. when police in New Hampshire were alerted to a loose dog wandering alone on I-89 near the Veterans Memorial Bridge, which connects the state with Vermont. When officers tried to get close to the dog, a one-year-old Shiloh shepherd named Tinsley, she wouldn’t get within 8 to 10 feet of them. Even though they couldn’t catch the dog, Tinsley refused to leave them alone. She kept trying to get their attention, and it seemed as if she wanted them to follow her, just like a real-life ‘Lassie’. Eventually, the dog turned back and led the officers across the bridge into Vermont, where they found a damaged guardrail. Tinsley ran to the guardrail and kept looking down the embankment. When the officers followed her gaze, they found a mangled pickup truck that had crashed and rolled off the road.

A Miraculous Canine Rescue

Tinsley’s owner, Cam Laundry, and a second passenger were lying in the snow nearby. Laundry’s pickup truck had fallen far enough down an embankment and into the woods that it was not easily seen from the road, so it’s likely that no one would have realized what had happened until it was too late. It was dark by the time officers found the two injured men, and with temperatures rapidly dropping, they would not have lasted the night. Tinsley, who Laundry refers to as his “co-pilot”, had been in the truck with him, but thankfully she was uninjured from the accident. After escaping the crash, she stepped in and circumvented a tragic fate for her beloved owner by bringing back a rescue party just in time. When officers found Laundry, he was suffering from hypothermia after lying in the snow for so long. True to her nature, Tinsley calmly sat by her owner as emergency personnel attended to him. Laundry says that the entire experience was a huge wake-up call for him, and calls Tinsley his guardian angel. If it weren’t for Tinsley’s quick thinking, her owner might not have been found in time and could have succumbed to his injuries. Thanks to his furry guardian angel, Laundry is expected to make a full recovery. As for Tinsley, Laundry said she would be rewarded with plenty of love and some tasty venison.
