It’s all kind of the same color with different textures but really all you can see is mud. Then, the video challenges you again. It invites you to take another look. This time, it’s not a still image. It’s a video depicting the same view as before. Only this time, you can see some ripples in the water and a small plant in the foreground swaying side to side. Still, even as you’re searching for the croc as if it’s a game of Where’s Waldo? it’s hard to spot what you’re looking for. You can make out some rocks and some dry bushes. They are scattered on a small hill that meets the muddy water at the bottom of the screen. It doesn’t seem like there’s much to look at. You can also see that the dry bushes are casting a shadow on the lower part of the hill that meets the water. Then, a red marker shows up on the screen to circle exactly where you should be looking. That’s when you notice the movement. This huge crocodile has been camouflaging right in the center of the screen and you won’t see it until it’s pointed out to you. In fact, you may think that some of the ridges closer to the water might make up the face of a croc. If you’re imaginative, there are probably several places on the screen you may think the croc is hiding. However, if you did make any initial guesses aside from what’s right front and center, you realize you’re wrong. Then, as the eerie music continues, the croc starts sliding down the small hill and into the water. The mud and water make for a slippery surface so it’s kind of like a wildlife slip and slide. It doesn’t have to make too many movements with its legs as it goes. It lets gravity just carry it into the water. The video ends as the croc descends and disappears into the muddy water. Already, crocs are great at camouflage. They have mottled coloring throughout their bodies and little knobs on their backs — even in clearer waters, they’re hard to spot. Introduce a little mud and voila! You’ve got a full disappearing act.
