Then, the camera turns to her as she presents against a white backdrop. There are some illustrations that appear to her right as she talks to the camera. She flips the script. She presents a hermit crab that is a thing of nightmares. It’s the coconut crab. She explains that the coconut crab lives in faraway, remote islands. Then, the video cuts to a man snatching up a huge coconut crab and lifting it up into the air. This thing could easily grab onto his head, so he keeps it at arm’s length. It really helps you appreciate just how large these creatures are. You get a couple of other clips of this hermit crab up close and personal. Then, the woman in the video introduces herself. Her name is Danielle. She explains that coconut crabs are also known as robber crabs. She recognizes that these crabs typically have a bad reputation because they’re so big and intimidating. To be fair, she follows this statement up with some disturbing information. Apparently, people have spotted coconut crabs eating both birds and kittens. (As a cat owner/lover myself, yes, I definitely gasped in horror at this comment!) Danielle very casually says that if you’re able to get past all of that information, you can appreciate that coconut crabs are some pretty interesting animals. You get to enjoy some more up-close footage of coconut crabs. You see just how long their arms grow. In fact, they can span over three feet long and they can grow enough to weigh over 8 pounds. Just as she’s covering these facts, the video shows a man in a hat wearing glasses. He’s holding a gigantic coconut crab. If you thought the images in the first part of this video were impressive, wait until you get to this part of the video!
